To Konatzi Tou Sionga
(Deryneia, free Famagusta)
Situated in the centre of Derynia village the newly renovated listed building consists of 5 ensuite bedrooms, a courtyard and a cafe. The rooms used to be the house of Eleni and Georgios Stekas and the cafe used to be Georgios’ “kafenes” in the days when the centre of the village was also its commercial centre. Nowadays the property is just off the main road in the pedestrian part of the village, Near the Church of the Virgin Mary, and Behind the little Church of Ayios Modestos.
Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the building is actually representing the modern city architecture of the time, stone clad with plaster. The restoration was done by 3 of the original owners grandchildren, Marinos, Elena and Georgia Steka in the memory of their father, Andreas, and their grandparents. It was extremely important to keep the character and style unchanged. It is evident from the rustic atmosphere that they have succeeded. There is a lovely Cafe – Bar area, true to the tradition Cypriot Style, with its own Terrace overlooking the quite paved street.
A large Courtyard at the back of the premises, surrounded by local trees, shrubs and flowers, is the perfect place to relax, or even have a function, such as a wedding or party.
All rooms are of a comfortable size fitted with air-conditioning and heating, television and en-suite toilet and shower facilities. Also available coffee/tea facilities, a fridge and a small table. Posto cafe next door offers free Wi-Fi Internet, also accessible in some of the rooms.
The lounge cafe “To Posto” is a perfect match of old and modern: one stone wall and arch, the rest of the walls plastered, the decoration modern and colourful. Definitely worth a visit, at anytime you like!
Food and Drink is served on request, and there is quite a variety to choose from. There are also other restaurants and bars in the area, if you prefer. Just ask for more details.
