Defense Minister Christoforos Fokaides on Tuesday flies to Israel to also attend the inauguration ceremony for an Offshore Patrol Vessel purchased by the Republic of Cyprus.
The OPV was built from scratch for Cyprus by Israel Shipyards Ltd following a state agreement between the two neighbouring countries.
The weapon-carrying, ‘combat proven’ OPV performs a wide range of coastal defence, security and law-enforcement missions.
This includes open sea patrol and surveillance, interception of terrorists, smuggling or illegal activities and protection of offshore facilities.
Fokaides is also scheduled to meet privately with his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Liberman.
