Fire sweeps through Paphos car allotment (PICTURES)

A fire ripped through an allotment of abandoned cars near the community of Ayia Varvara in Paphos on Monday causing extensive damage before the blaze was finally extinguished.

The Fire Services announced that the fire started at around 12.23pm and that eight firefighters with three large water tankers and two excavators with their operators were used to bring the fire under control.

Efforts to put out the blaze were hampered by strong winds in the area.
