A team of five 15- to 16-year-olds from The English School Nicosia are taking part in the Formula 1 in schools competition and have created their own Formula 1 team called ‘Thunder Racing’.
An announcement on the event read how the five students – Christos Antoniou, Nicolas Georgiades, Odysseas Makariou, Alex Dzaghigian and Ramon Merhi – are privileged to have the support of the Formula One community – in particular Bernie Ecclestone.
The team is racing against time as they have designed, built and are set to race what may prove to be the fastest miniature Formula 1 Car of the Future. They have furthermore created an enticing ‘pit’ display and illustrations of their work in developing their amazing racing car.
The National Finals will take place at the English School on May 13 and 15 and each team will bring along a pit display, their cars and portfolio, as well as a verbal presentation for the judges.
The cars will race along a 20-metre track, with the cars covering the distance in around one second.
The competition is running in 40 countries with a short-listed few set to make it through to the international competition.
‘Thunder Racing’ have worked hard to make an aerodynamic design with secret mechanical features which will boost it and make the car “as fast as lightning”.
“Their team has bonded over this inspirational challenge and what they have created is unique, competitive and exciting,” continued the announcement.
