A man from Nicosia has been charged with DUI and dangerous driving after causing a traffic accident involving three vehicles on the Larnaca-Ayia Napa motorway on Saturday evening.
According to Traffic Police in the Famagusta District, the incident occurred at 6.50pm when a car being driven by a 51-year-old man from Nicosia careened into the opposite lane and crashed into another car being driven by a 53-year-old man from Xylofagou.
The 53-year-old’s car, in turn, then struck another vehicle being driven by a 26-year-old from Sotira. The 51-year-old’s out-of-control car finally came to a standstill in a nearby field.

The 51-year-old test was subjected to a breathalyser test where scored 129mg% – over six times the legal limit. A second test at Ayia Napa police saw a reading of 113mg%
The other two motorists had not consumed any alcohol.
The 51-year-old man was later treated for minor injuries in hospital.
