The Cyprus Rally competition stage kicked off on Saturday and includes eight special stages covering 117,1 Km including the CNP ASFALISTIKI Super Special Stage held in the centre of Nicosia.
The Super Special Stage stands out this year as it will be run twice on the same day; 11.27 am and 16.59 pm.
For those wishing to travel to Nicosia on Saturday, keep in mind that Cyprus Rally 2017 organisers have announced that there will be traffic disruptions over the weekend and are pleading with motorists to show patience and comply with police instructions.
“The public wishing to watch the special stage is advised to come to the area early on Saturday and to use all adjacent parking areas and to comply with directions of the Police and the safety marshals.”
The roads will be closed all day Saturday.
Rigenis Street: closed form the Arsinois Street junction up to the Markou Drakou round-about near the Paphos Gate.
Egyptou Street: Closed from Loyd George Square up to the Markou Drakou round-about near the Paphos Gate.
Museum Street: Closed from the Nehru Street junction up to the Markou Drakou round-about near the Paphos Gate.
Kynira Street: Closed from the Pedieos River Bridge up to the Markou Drakou round-about near the Paphos Gate.
Charalambos Mouskou Street: Closed up to the Kynira Street junction.
Kosti Palama Street: One lane will remain closed.
Gregoris Afxentiou Street: One lane will remain closed.
Chilonos Street: Closed in the direction of the Cyprus Archaeological Museum traffic lights
Following the running of the morning stage of the Super Special Stage, the crews will compete on the 14.41 Km Special Stage in Analionta before returning to Nicosia to run the afternoon Super Special Stage
Friday saw 67 cars take part in the opening celebrations along Larnaca’s Finikoudes Beach.
This year’s Rally Cyprus is the also the fourth round of the European Championships and has attracted some of the top European drivers to the island including Portugals Bruno Magahaes in his Skoda Fabia R5 and two-time champion, Poland’s Kajetan Kajetanowicz in his Ford Fiesta R5 while four times Cyprus Rally winner, Qatar’s Nasser Al Attiyah is also in contention.
