A poem written by Cypriot photographer Andreas Andreou was recently the highlight of the closing ceremony of the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP) 5th Photo Meeting in China.
Multi-award winner Andreou (EFIAPd1, HonEFIAP, PISF, ICSSafiiri) was one of 50 Cypriot FIAP members attending the global event, held in Jinan, Shandong Province between August 6 and 17, an . Some 350 photographers and admirers of photographic art from 42 countries took part with Cyprus boasting one of the largest participants in spite of the country’s small size.
Andreou’s poem ‘FIAP in my heart for ever’ was put to music and performed in Chinese along with a photo display of important moments in FIAP’s history, an announcement by President of the Cyprus Photographic Society and FIAP Liason Officer Constantinos Charalambous (EFIAP, ESFIAP) said this week.
Charalambous also noted the visit to China included plenty of opportunity to take more photos including during a tour of the most important parts of the Shandong area, such as the Dai Temple in Taian, the world-famous Mount Tai that is a World’s Cultural and Natural Heritage site, the famous Temple and Cemetery of Confucius in Qufu, Zipo city famous for glass factories and museums, Zhoucun city which is famous for its silk, and giant Qingdao city.
Upon their return to Beijing, the group visited the impressive Great Wall of China.
Charalambous commented: “Everywhere the people of China welcomed us with impressive events and the organizers offered us hospitality and services of the highest possible level. There were magnificent celebratory events that left us speechless. We owe them great thanks. We must also mention the Chinese state issuing of a special series of stamps in honour of the 5th FIAP Photo Meeting in Shandong”.
