Cliff-hanger rescue of tourists by helicopter (PICS)

Three tourists who were rock climbing in the area of Loutros (Bademlikoy) village near Lefka (Lefke) were rescued by a military helicopter after falling down a steep ravine on Monday afternoon.

According to a police announcement three tourists were stranded at the bottom of a cliff, after a part of the rock had collapsed with the tourists falling to the bottom of it. The three were not injured but were unable to climb back up as the rock had collapsed.

The trio panicked, and originally requested help from the Turkish Cypriot Coast guard.

However the coast guard could not reach the three stranded tourists and requested help from the air force.

A helicopter was sent in with the trio being rescued by air.
