A couple on a camping holiday in Cyprus have told police that they were attacked and robbed by three men posing as police officers in the early hours of Friday morning.
According to the complaint, the Ukrainian couple had set up camp in an area between Aphrodite’s Rock and Aphrodite Hills but were awoken after just 2am by what they saw were three men claiming to be police officers.
The men demanded to search their tent before informing the man that he also wanted to search his rental car. While he was walking to the car – situated some 50m away – with the two of the men, the other man reportedly attacked the woman with a club and managed to steal a wallet containing €200 and some credit cards.
All three men then ran off leaving, according to the testimony from the couple – both said to be 25-years-old.
According to the description from the victims, the man who attacked the woman has been described as being around 1.80m all, around 35-year-old, slightly overweight and was sporting a beard. The other two men are described as being around 1.70m in height, around 25-years-old, thin build and with short hair.
The woman was taken to Paphos General Hospital where she received stitches to her head and is set to be kept overnight under observation.
Paphos CID are still investigating.
