Renos Lysiotis will present his collection of 20 short stories entitled ‘Stratarha mou, Paradidomai!’ (My Marshall I Surrender!), at the Journalists’ House at 7pm.
What: Book Presentation – My Marshall I Surrender!
When: Wednesday, 21 February
Where: Journalists’ House, 12, CyBC (Rik) Avenue, Aglandjia, Nicosia.
The work is an innovative double publication, with one book published in the original Greek and the other in English, translated by Susan Papas.
The 20 short stories are all based on the author’s real life experiences reflecting his activities during the period 1955-59, initially as a young lawyer conducting the defence of freedom fighters before the Special Courts of the Colonial Government, then as an active member of EOKA, and finally as a detainee in Pyla Camp where he was responsible for the well-being and morale of the detainees.
Describing the stories as “moments from a great struggle”, Lysiotis’ tales are dramatic, humorous and moving.
The book will be presented by the historian Dr. Andreas Karyos. Other speakers will be the Mayor of Lysi Andreas Kaouris, the Minister of Education Dr. Costas Kadis, the philologist Dr. George Kitromilides, the author himself, and his 11-year-old grandson Fanos who asked his grandfather to write down the stories.
