Police have confirmed that a body that was discovered on Tuesday morning in the northwest of Cyprus belongs to missing 83-year-old director Nicos Siafkalis – who disappeared after going fishing on Sunday.
State radio said that a man’s body had been discovered in the sea by a tourist in the Nea Dimmata area (near Pachyammos beach) – some 20km from the area where Siafkalis’s car had been found, between Latsi and the Baths of Aphrodite. A state pathologist is currently at the scene.
Siafkalis had been reported missing after going out fishing on Sunday morning.
According to police reports, Siafkalis went fishing between Latsi and the Baths of Aphrodite area near Polis Chrysochous in Paphos at around 7am on Sunday morning.
The 83-year-old’s car has been located with police finding his mobile telephone, a diving suit and spearfishing gear inside the vehicle.
The Cyprus Port & Marine Police, the Civil Defence as well as friends and family were searching both inland along the coast and the sea for any sign of Siafkalis.
