Bad cops forced into voluntary retirement

Two policemen who served sixth-month prison sentences for fraud and abuse of power have been forced into voluntary retirement.

The decision to force the two into voluntary retirement was made by a police disciplinary enquiry into the actions that led to their arrest and subsequent imprisonment.

In January 2016, the Larnaca District Court passed down six-month prison sentences to the two for fraud and abuse of power related charges for their involvement in the Dromolaxia property scandal.

The Dromolaxia scandal revolved around the purchase of office space by CyTA’s pension fund in Dromolaxia, near Larnaca airport for €9.9 million a price reportedly several times the going market value at the time.
