When Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) jump-starts a dormant peacekeeping programme, things go awry and Earth’s mightiest heroes, including Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test.
Once again, writer/director Joss Whedon manages to give all our heroes a respectable amount of space… and story… so that no one feels short-changed.

But… the story feels scrappy.
It’s not bad. Far from it. And, unusually, it actually gets better as it goes along. But the story feels awkward at times. And Marvel movies are starting to feel like they’re adhering to a template… even when they come with added Whedon wisecracks.
It’s not as fresh as its predecessor, but the cast slip into their roles as easily as old slippers … and with its endless action, sharp one-liners, and winning spirit, there’s plenty of entertainment and – most importantly – fun to be had.
