Police say that an employee of a mobile telephone card company was robbed of €80,000 outside his home in Polemidia.
The robbery took place outside the house of the man who had returned home at around midday on Wednesday. According to the victim, two hooded men – armed with a pistol and a hammer – approached him whilst he was getting out of his car and demanded that he handed over the money.
In his attempt to resist, one of his assailants hit him over the head with the weapon that he was carrying. The victim gave them the key to the small safe which was in the car which contained €80,000 from the sales of mobile recharge cards.
According to witnesses, the men made their escape in a silver saloon, driven by a third person. The car was later discovered by police, abandoned in the Ayios Silas industrial estate near Ypsonas.
