Adrian Sardinero snatched a last-gasp equaliser to rescue a well-deserved point for Apollon Limassol on Thursday night in their opening Europa League game at home to Ligue 1 side Lyon.
The Limassol club were the better side throughout the majority of the game at the GSP Stadium with Anton Maglica, Alex and Jander all going close to opening the scoring. Miroslav Zelinka had controversially pointed to the penalty spot just after halftime after awarding a soft penalty for the French club after the ball had struck Jander’s arm in the area.

Memphis Depay put his side ahead before Apollon turned up the heat in search of the equaliser which came in the third minute of stoppage time.
Nicolas Martinez – who had come on to replace Alex – charged down the right wing and provided a good cross for fellow substitute Adrian Sardinero to toe-poke in off the post.
Apollon will next travel to Goodison Park on September 28 to take on hosts Everton.
