Israeli media reports claim that a representative of Spanish defender Jesus Rueda is currently in Cyprus to hold talks with title favourites APOEL.
The reports – which have not been confirmed by his club Beitar Jerusalem or APOEL – also claim that the player is keen to move to the Nicosia club.
Rueda was rated as one of the best defenders in the Israel league this season with APOEL officials keen to bolster their backline following rumours that Inaki Astiz is on the way out while January signing Cedric Yambere has failed to pin a regular place in Thomas Christiansen’s starting XI.
APOEL, who are also in the Cyprus Coca-Cola Cup final where they will face Apollon Limassol on May 24, need only a win over derby rivals Omonia this weekend to clinch a record 26th league title.
The 30-year-old Rueda spent seven years at La Liga club Valladolid before moving to Israeli Premier League – where he emerged as one of their top players.
