Tourist arrivals in Cyprus marked another record in July this year, as well as during the first seven months of 2017.
On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists reached 531,030 in July 2017 compared to 482,132 in July 2016, recording an increase of 10.1%.
“July 2017 had the highest volume of tourist arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the specific month” says an announcement by the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus.
Furthermore, during the period of January – July 2017 arrivals of tourists totaled 1,994,236 compared to 1,737,372 in the corresponding period of 2016, recording an increase of 14.8% and outnumbering the arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the first seven months of the year.
The United Kingdom and Russia constitute the main tourist markets for Cyprus in July, with 33.3% and 24.3% respectively. Arrivals from Israel account for 8%, while Sweden contributed 4.3% of the total, the announcement adds.
Tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom increased by 6% in July 2017, compared to July 2016 while an increase of 82.6% was recorded for tourists from Israel. Increases were also recorded from other important tourist markets, such as Sweden (17.3%) and Germany (69.5%). In contrast, Russian tourists decreased by 3.6%.
Moreover, 88% of tourists arriving in Cyprus in July 2017 said they were holiday-makers, 9.7% visited friends and relatives and 2.3% came for business. Most tourists were women (55.2%), and the majority of tourists belonged to the age group of 20-44 years.
