Akinci sends cyclists of on cycling tour of north Cyprus

Cyclists from 16 countries have set off for the second stage of the International North Cyprus Bicycle Tour in Nicosia on Friday morning. The start of the tour was officiated Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci at 11 on Friday morning.

Akinci set the 126 cyclists off on the route which started from Nicosia, passed by Famagusta, Kithrea (Degirmenlik) to end up back in Nicosia.

Mustafa Akinci talking at the launch of the second stage of the bicycle tour said “The fact that there 16 countries represented here is very honoring for north Cyprus”.

Akinci addressed the athletes in English saying that “The message here is peace. Sports is peace. I wish you a pleasant stay in Cyprus”.

Akinci then set the cyclists off by waving the umpire’s flag.

The first leg took place yesterday and saw cyclists setting off from Nicosia to tour villages in the Famagusta region. The third leg is to take place tomorrow with cyclists touring villages in the Kyrenia region
