The coming week will be a week of decision-making for Cyprus says Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci in a written statement from Crans Montana.
His goal is to do what is best for the next generations of Cyprus, he added.
“We are here, with determination, to move ahead to a future that is more beautiful and peaceful, as Turkish Cypriots and the entire island deserve.”
At the beginning of his statement, the Turkish Cypriot leader says that he had pointed out a long time ago that the method of discussing each chapter separately was no longer effective.
Instead he advocates for discussing chapters in packages which include the most important topics, and creating parallel tables to discuss these topics.
Akinci reiterated his belief that the Conference on Cyprus is a conference for decision-making, and that it is to this effect that the Turkish Cypriot side is moving ahead.
On Friday night, with the participation of the UN Secretary General, the two sides accepted the idea of discussing and resolving topics in the form of a package.
“Within this framework we are continuing our effort in close cooperation with political parties, and the Turkish Foreign Minister to create a framework in which the TC people live with equality, safety, and liberty and the GC people do not feel threatened”.
