Sources close to Phileleftheros indicate that the names of two candidates, that of Malas and lawyer Achilleas Demetriades were put forward for discussion.
The same sources say that a common programme will be prepared while the dialogue between the two sides will begin before the approval of the candidacy by the party congress.
“The Central Committee authorises the Central Secretariat of the Party to promote the implementation of the decision,” concluded the announcement.
Malas will run as an independent with the backing of AKEL as he did for the 2013 elections in which he lost to incumbent Nicos Anastasiades.
