The ARTos Foundation, in association with the High Commission of India and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, is organising a Sarod concert with one of the youngest award winning Indian sarod artist, Abhisek Lahiri and his group.
What: Abhisek Lahiri
When: Monday, 17 July and Wednesday, 19 July
Where: Heroes Square, Limassol and ARTos Foundation, 64 Agion Omologiton Avenue, Nicosia
Lahiri will be performing classical Indian Ragas in a traditional format of Alap, Jod and Jhala followed by compositions set to different Talas together with the support of Tabla and Tanpura.
Award-winning musician Abhisek Lahiri started performing in public at an early age of 11 and got his first break at a national level in 1997, when he was invited by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia to play at Saath Saath Festival. Since then he has played at prestigious venues and events across the world in musical hubs throughou Europe, the USA, Canada, Sri Lanka, Japan and Bangladesh to name a few.
His album ‘Sparkling Sarod’ got a Global Indian Music Award nomination in 2010 and again in 2014 with his album ‘Mood Of Puriya Kalyan’.
Notwithstanding the traditional essence which is one of the predominant feature of Indian Classical Music, Abhisek Lahiri has blended his baaj by the norms of the venerable raagdari, with the neoteric idiosyncrasy of chalan, taan, chords and by introducing unanticipated instantaneous notes and startling phrases.
The concert will take place on July 19 at 20:30 at Heroes Square in Limassol as part of the 12th Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival. Entrance is free and for more information call 77777745.
Abhisek Lahiri’s Sarod group will be performing a free concert at ARTos Foundation on July 17 at 8pm.
